MusiQuest Jr Objectives

The purpose of MusiQuest Jr is to provide quality music education for young children. MusiQuest Jr students will learn music concepts through singing, playing instruments, movement, and listening. The students will also learn basic music theory.

Objectives for Level 1 and Level 2

Performance
  • Students will sing a variety of songs. Some songs will include music terminology, while others will reinforce a specific rhythm or other musical concept.
  • Students will perform rhythmic patterns made up of quarter notes, eighth notes, rests, and triplet or 6/8 patterns.
  • Children will recite poems/children’s literature and determine the rhythm that is used.
  • Students will imitate basic solfege patterns.
  • Students will demonstrate dynamic differences and tempo changes.
Movement
  • Students will demonstrate a steady beat through body percussion, instruments, chants, songs, and movement.
  • Students will perform simple dances to music.
Listening
  • Students will identify rhythmic patterns by listening.
  • Students will be able to identify instruments by their timbre.
  • Students will be able to differentiate between loud/soft and fast/slow.
Theory
  • Students will learn to recognize basic musical symbols such as the staff, treble clef, time signatures, notes, rests, and dynamic markings, and identify the names of the notes in the treble clef.
  • Students will be able to notate basic rhythm patterns.
  • Students will be able to identify instruments by looking at pictures.

Objectives for Level 3

  • Students will learn to identify and repeat basic rhythm patterns.
  • Students will learn basic music theory.
  • Students will learn to recognize basic musical symbols such as the staff, treble clef, time signatures, notes, rests and dynamic markings.
  • Students will be able to identify the names of the notes in the treble clef.
  • Students will learn the basics of recorder playing, and will learn to play several songs.
